Interesting Timewaster

Original Article/ Video
I think that this application is pretty interesting. It is apparently great at wasting time as well. Basically if you bookmark this link, you can play the classic console game ASTEROIDS on any website. You can shoot up the pictures and text of the web page while you veg out and procrastinate on whatever it is you were supposed to be doing instead. I would assume you would burn out on it quick however. Short lived but fun while it lasts. Not a bad idea.

Chroma Key Green Screen Challenge

This it the video that Justin and I made for our Green Screen Challenge. Its pretty basic but its not bad for having never used "Final Cut Pro"  before.

My Horror Movie Poster- FINAL PROJECT

This is my horror movie poster which I have created for my final class project. I wanted to go with more of an Alfred Hitchcock type of a feel, or even nowadays, M. Night shyamalan. I spent hours on it and I hope that you all enjoy it. Feedback is always appreciated as well.

Video Game Shunned

Video Game Article

I think that it is interesting when people object to media in general. It seems as thought when an individual speaks out against a game that is world wide, months after its release, that they are either naive or looking for publicity. Its foolish to think that one person shunning a video game will make everyone stop playing it. It is just not going to happen. I think that doing this really does more to work against you that help you. Think about it this way, when you stage a protest about a game that is already released globally, its kind of a matter of "too little, too late". At that point all you are really doing is giving more publicity to the game and introducing others to it, who may have never otherwise heard about it. You are making them want to check out the now-controversial game. Even if it is just to see what all of the fuss is about, you have now peaked the interest of more people.

Awesome Football Routine

Coolest Football Routine Ever

I would have to say that I agree with the title of this video, in that it is in fact the coolest football routine I've ever seen. I like that everyone worked together very closely and the routine was very neat and well executed. I tend to like the simpler things over really complex stuff. The fact that it was simply a stick man kicking a football into a field goal was ingenious. Also, I would imagine that it is a great way to get fans riled up and excited.

G.I. Joe PSA Parodies

Original Video

So this video was found on knowyourmeme.com and I found it more educational than funny. I believe it was the knowyourmeme team in the video itself. The video talks about the old G.I. Joe public service announcements from back in the 1980's. A few years back, there were some parody over-dubs made. These parodies were hosted on Ebaumsworld.com and later on youtube.com. The voice-overs are just as random as they are funny. As I mentioned before, the above link will take you to the video that I am commenting on today. It is pretty lame but it told a little bit about the history behind the original P.S.A. videos as well as the parodies of them. If the point was to strictly inform, then it served its purpose well.

Usability Test for Craigslist.org

A few days ago I had my cousin help me out with a Usability test. The website was www.craigslist.org. I had his do test out some of the key components of the website and give me feedback on either how easy, hard, practical, or ridiculous it was to complete the task. All of this was done while I timed him to see how long it took to complete. Below are the results, times, and feedback that I received:

"Find the Terms of Service Agreement"
 Time Taken: 25 seconds
Feedback: Very poorly labeled, mislabeled as "copyright violation" which was misleading

"Select a Different City to Search In"
Time Taken: 4 seconds
Feedback: Easy to find pop-up list on the main page

"Post a Specific Item Online to Sell- A House"
Time Taken: 20 seconds
Feedback: Easy to find "post to classifieds" button on the main screen

"Find the List of Banned Items"
Time Taken: 1 min. 25 seconds
Feedback: The actual list doesn't actually pop-up until you select a category to browse in, could have been a wild goose chase if i didn't stumble upon it semi-accidentally.

"Contact the Admins of the Website"
Time Taken: 14 seconds
Feedback: Needed common sense to find the subcategory that the information was hiding in, older users with less website experience might have had trouble finding it.

"Find a Restaurant Serving Job"
Time Taken: 11 seconds
Feedback: Clearly labeled and listed search bar and option boxes.

"Find a Chevy Truck for Between $1,500 - $4,000 With a Picture"
Time Taken: 20 seconds
Feedback: No troubles, once again clear labeling and great functionality.

Overall he liked that website and found it easy to navigate and utilize. I would have to say that due to Craigslist's basic template, it may not be much to look at but it sure works great. Makes searching the classifieds fast and easy.
 Software Piracy
Kotaku.com - Original Article

I find it amazing that pirated software gets around so fast. In this case it was a serial key but still, frankly I didn't know that that many people really do that. I suppose that the internet has the potential to make anything spread like wild fire. I was very surprised to find out that there were two computers that had the key loaded onto them that were in Vatican City, of all places! I bet that it would be hard to prosecute everyone but i would assume that at least the users that the key was originally registered to are going to be in a lot of trouble. I would have to say that it would be nice to get free software but the risks are just too big. It's not really worth it in the end.

It's Like Super Mario Bros, But With A Condom

Original Video

So I was on Kotaku and i ran across this the above linked video. The title caught my attention and so i started watching it. So basically the video is an 8-bit video game safe sex message but its actually pretty funny. You've got this guy who wants this other girl and she is like "not without a condom". So of course without a second thought the guy is off on his quest to find the sacred condom. It starts off Mario Brothers style with the character is running and hopping and jumping over any and all obstacles (including the STI's) which look like goombas. hahaha. So he is running and falls into this bottle of alcohol and gets naked, why I don't know, but then again, why not? So then he finds the condom but it falls into a ppit of doom. He goes back for another try and this time he gets it. So then he goes back and its Game On! :)

I found that this is a clever way to get the attention of people like myself who are self-proclaimed nerds. The video is funny and attention grabbing. At the end there is a short message about calling some number for safe sex information. Since the actual add was in the form of a video game, it was interesting and at the same time, didn't feel intrusive. This is a great way to get a public service announcement across to many people in a lighthearted yet serious manner which doesn't leave you feeling pissed that you had to endure it. Win.

KnowYourMeme - First Entry

"Sometimes I Just Want To Copy Someone Else’s Status"

Join the madness

Okay, so basically the title is pretty much self-explanatory. The general idea around this internet meme is that it's a viral round robin. Tim Waters from the UK, on August 26th, posted  "Sometimes I just want to copy someone else's status, word for word, and see if they notice". You would think that something as simple as a post like that on Twitter would have little to no influence on anything. Wrong! This one little post has turned into a viral round, so to speak. This is because the post could be referring to itself and copying re-posting that same status ABOUT copying a status is like a big joke on the person who posted it before you posted it. Its like "the song that never ends" which only ends if the singer gets sick of singing it. Well in this case, this rather stupid internet meme has the potential to never die until people have gotten completely sick of it and stop posting it.

This all sounds quite petty and stupid, and in many respects that is correct. On the other hand, if you have millions of people surfing the internet aimlessly, bored at any given second, you never know what might catch their attention, and appearantly this is the best that they could find to run with. It is what it is I suppose.

Original Review Article

This article is a review for a web series called "Starvival". The general plot surrounds a work-starved actress by the name of Danielle Barker. She takes odd jobs off of online postings in order to make money to keep her afloat between acting gigs.

After having watched only half on an episode, I already felt as if I had seen this before. What I meen is that the plot and antics within said plot are quite generic and unoriginal. I am not one to stop shows mid episode and be content with not having any drive to ever finish it, but there are always exceptions. This show is indeed one of those exceptions.

Im going to have to agree with the original review of the series and say that I was less than satisfied by far. Despite the fact that Barker recieves a gold star and an "A" for effort, her time would be better served trying to find a regular 9-5 job. Lastly, the fact that this obviously scripted show is being passed off as a raw reality show is close to a slap in the face for all of the followers, assuming there are any.

Regards,
Evan
